Head Teacher’s blog – upcoming Christmas events

This week saw the S4 prelims finishing and they ran smoothly.  As we are well in to December the school and our pupils start to get busy with Christmas events.

On Thursday night (3rd) Mrs Nicholls and I had the pleasure of attending the  concert in Paisley Town Hall.  The various groups are made up of pupils from across Renfrewshire.  Many of our pupils were involved in this event and it was a very enjoyable evening.

During the remainder of the term there will be a lot of events taking place and I would want all families to feel their children can be included should they wish to be involved.  If any family is unable to make the cost of any of the key events noted below please contact your child’s Guidance teacher or Year Head and we will assist where possible.   The main events over the next couple of weeks are  –

Christmas concert (Tuesday 8th) This is always a high point of the school year when we have an opportunity to see some of many talented pupils performing.  On this evening our Parent Council will be providing refreshments at the interval and will also run a raffle.  Any donations for prizes would be most appreciated.  They can be handed in to the school office.

S1 pantomime visit  (Tuesday 15th)  – This annual event is organised by the English department and is always very well attended.  This year the chosen pantomime is “Santa Claus is coming to town” at the Pavilion Theatre.

Christmas dances –  There is a long tradition of well attended and very enjoyable dances in PMHS.  The dances are a mix of ceilidh band and disco time which is often the format adult functions.  Social dancing is taught in PE during this month and I’m sure all adults would agree that later in life it is useful to have these skills.  In PMHS we even have our own social dance which is performed to “Jingle Bells”.  Ask your children to demonstrate it for you!

Attendance at the dances is dependent on pupils having good records of attendance, timekeeping and behaviour.  At our dances pupils are expected to dress smartly and obviously behave well so that all present can enjoy themselves.

S3&4 – Wednesday 16th December (in PMHS)

S5&6 – Thursday 17th December  (at the Erskine Bridge Hotel)

S1&2 – Monday 21st December (in PMHS)

Talent Show – Tuesday 22nd December

Again this is a big tradition within PMHS and is always a fantastic event.  We have so many talented pupils who are willing to enter, that we actually have to hold auditions to finalise the acts who will perform in the show.  On the last day before the holiday it means we always end the term on a high point and I never cease to be amazed at the level of talent in our school.
