Modern Apprentice Practitioner Clinical Technologists (Medical Equipment Management)  – Electronic Engineering

What qualifications do I need to apply?

 At the time of applying you must already have achieved:

·         2 Higher Qualifications (or SCQF Equivalent) at Grades A to C in Maths and a Science/Technical Subject

·         5 National 5 qualifications (or SCQF Equivalent) at Grades A to C including English.

What does the Medical Equipment Management department do?

The Department of Clinical Physics and Bio-engineering (DCPB) provides the Medical Equipment Management Service for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The Departmental staff work closely with Clinical, Nursing & Allied Healthcare Professionals in providing a comprehensive range of maintenance and management services for patient connected and other electro medical and scientific equipment. Clinical Physics staff maintain the majority of medical equipment used in hospitals. Some specialist equipment will be maintained by external service contracts. These contracts will be administered and monitored by physics staff.

What qualifications will I achieve by completing this apprenticeship?

Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Diploma in Healthcare Technology Management is a SQA customised award at SCQF level 9 which is a degree level qualification and is nationally recognised as such. This award was developed by Greater Glasgow and Clyde and has allowed us to identify and focus on the essential areas for training in the management of medical equipment. 

The qualifications you will achieve during this apprenticeship are:

·        HND in Electronics

·        Diploma in Healthcare Technology Management SCQF Level 9

·        Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) Diploma in Clinical Technology.

·        Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations

·        Core Skills at SCQF Level 5

·        SVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance (Instrumentation)

Upon completion of the apprenticeship you will have attained a profile of knowledge, training and experience equivalent to SCQF Level 9 (Ordinary Degree Level) with experience of a range of healthcare science duties acquired through training.
