For the second year running the s5 and S6 pupils involved in the STEM Land Rover 4 x 4 Challenge have progressed to the National Final in Gaydon, Birmingham. Miss Madigan from Technology will travel to the National Motor Museum a the beginning of March with a group of S5 and S6 pupils to participate in the Land Rover 4 x 4 final.
Over the past academic year, a team of five fifth- and sixth-year pupils have been working on the Land Rover 4×4 In Schools Technology Challenge. The team were given the challenge to design and model a radio-controlled 4×4 vehicle, as well as create a pit display, presentation and a team identify ‘Freelanders’.
On the 5th December 2018, the team attended the Scottish regional finals in Inveralmond Academy, Livingston. The team entered at professional class and were up against another 4 teams from schools all over Scotland. They had a great day taking part in the tasks set by Land Rover. This included delivering a presentation to a panel of judges, attending scrutineering by the competition officials and of course the highlight of the day the track and trailer test where the team finally got to test their car and see how well it was built. All of the team’s hard work and dedication to the competition payed of with them achieving the best track performance and presentation awards as well as coming overall 2nd place. Achieving this means that the team won themselves a place in the national competitions.
The National Finals are held in the British Motor Museum in Gaydon on the 6th and 7th March and are looking for any local businesses or groups who would be willing to support our project. The pupils will have the expense of travel, accommodation and food on top of the cost of transporting their pit display there safely before the competition date. Any assistance in supporting the pupils with these costs would be very much appreciated.
