On October 3rd 2017 Mr Toole was rushed into hospital after falling unconscious with septic shock and sepsis. He spent 8 days in a high dependency unit under 24 hour observation and on a constant stream of antibiotics and fluids, with another 2 days on a ward for respiratory issues.
Around 150,000 people get affected by sepsis a year with just over half either not surviving or having an organ removed/limb amputated! Ross forever grateful for the quick thinking of his wife phoning the ambulance and the Drs and nurses at the RAH Paisley for a very quick diagnosis (as misdiagnosis is very common) that contributed to Ross coming out comparatively unscathed!
Mr Toole was back at his work within 2 months and is determined to raise awareness of the illness. The Scottish Government is also trying to raise awareness with a national campaign.
