The following opportunities have arisen aimed at those pupils about to enter S5:
• Business Skills Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) – this framework will run in partnership with Renfrewshire Council. Young people will have an opportunity to explore a wide range of business disciplines during the two year course. On competition of the FA, they will be invited to the next stage of the recruitment process for the council’s Modern Apprenticeship programme. This framework runs for the next three years as it involves a work placement in year 2 with Renfrewshire Council.
• Digital Manufacturing Foundation Apprenticeship – new for 2020, this exciting pilot is designed to better prepare young people for the future of engineering. Partnering with NMIS (National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland), Strathclyde Uni and the AFRC (Advanced Formula Research Centre), this sees young people undertake a two year engineering Foundation Apprenticeship focusing on Digital Manufacturing units. On successful completion of the FA, young people would be guaranteed an interview for the Engineering HNC at West College Scotland or interviews for the AFRC Modern Apprenticeship programme. In the past, in order to gain a place on the Engineering FA, young person were expected to be working towards their Higher Maths in S5. However, this is not the case for this. A young person is only expected to have a good understanding of Maths and capabilities to undertake this level of work and is working towards their N5 Qualification.
