New House System

The school has explored prior to the summer holidays, developing and re-branding the current House System within Park Mains High School. For many years Park Mains had Pastoral Care groups named Cart, Calder, Leven and Kelvin.

The aspiration was to create four House groups and establish a whole school house system which every pupil and every member of staff is involved in.

House groups give pupils more of a sense of belonging, as well as creating more leadership opportunities which in turn will help develop self- esteem and support their well being. It also offers opportunities for house competitions and further celebrate the many successes of our pupils.

After a period of consultation with staff, parents and pupils the overwhelming majority voted to create four house groups named after Scottish Islands. The new House groups are Arran, Bute, Mull and Skye with their own logo, colour and motto. New S3 pupils worked with the English department, and the pastoral care staff plus SMT has agreed on the following mottos.

Arran – Stand together, soar together.

Bute- Be different, be brave, be Bute.

Mull- Don’t stop- exceed expectations!

Skye- Don’t just dream it- do it!

Staff and pupils have been allocated to a House group and wear a coloured badge to show which House they belong to. Pupils can also be rewarded by staff with Bronze, Silver or Gold tokens. The tokens will be counted at various stages in the school year and the House group with the most at that point will receive a House reward.


The logos were designed and illustrated by Miss Wylie, Art probationer and are now displayed in the Street Area and the stairwells within the school.

Each House has House Captains from every year group who will have some leadership responsibilities when there are House events taking place throughout the school year. Watch this space for more information on our House events.
