The School of Engineering and Physical Sciences of Heriot-Watt University would like to invite you and your students to take advantage of the opportunity to interact directly with our Departments of Chemistry, Physics and Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering via our programme of Schools’ Engagement Activities. We are again pleased to be able to offer to you our series of chemistry and physics talks covering many aspects of the disciplines. We are even more please to be able to continue to offer a programme of lectures from our colleagues in Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering. Therefore, can I encourage you to share the enclosed materials to other colleagues in Chemistry, Physics and CDT within your school or college who may also be interested in participating in this offer
We present the lectures in your school or college at a mutually arranged convenient time and date. The lecturers are highly respected and experienced university teachers and researchers, and they deliver the lectures at a level appropriate to the chosen audience. This free and very successful series allows school pupils to experience the excitement, relevance, and application of chemistry, physics and aspects of engineering over the fullest breadth of the disciplines.
Details of how each discipline operates its own programme of lectures are given on the enclosed flyers. Please follow the particular instructions given by each of the disciplines. Can I suggest that when making contact with us, you choose the talk that you would like us to deliver and supply details of your name, the school or college name and the town it is located in, the student age range and the projected numbers of students. We will try to get back to you as quickly as we can. The only additional constraints on your choice are that some lecturers cannot give talks in the North East or North West of England and that we restrict each school to a maximum of ONE lecture in the Autumn (September to December), ONE lecture in the Winter (January to Easter) and ONE lecture in the Spring/Summer (Easter to June/July).
We also offer some in-house activities here at our Edinburgh Campus to give your students a taste of university life. Hopefully, this will help maintain pupil numbers in the science, technology and engineering disciplines throughout your school/college at all levels and encourage uptake of these disciplines by your students at university.
Regards,
Martin McCoustra
